Computer consultancy

Windows server
Installed servers implementing DHCP, integrating them into DNS. Configured servers to save MS Project information and web data into Access/SQL databases. Our current Windows server hosts a number of web sites on the Internet. Securing IIS.
NetWare
Seven years’ experience, Novell CNE. Including upgrade of a complete company. NDS faultfinding.
Network architectures
Designing networks with multiple sites over various architectures including microwave, SDH, Kilostream and PCM, using multiple vendors. Including ISP and portal security. Design of server clusters over multiple sites. Identifying/documenting vulnerable parts of the network to ensure uptime.
Security
Security policy definition, installed firewall software and integrated products such as MIMEsweeper. Trained on Raptor firewall set. Experience with Firewall 1, Border Manager, ONGuard and Novix products. Set up VPN between sites using encryption. Security testing and backup policies. Hardening of Unix and Windows servers for the internet.
Project management
Project managed the implementation of packet data in Telco and Government environments from the gap analysis through feasibility, design, development and implementation including test plans. Managing and assessing risks, critical paths resources and progress monitoring. Trained in PRINCE project management.
Networking
Experience in networking Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, ISDN, X21, X25, RS232 (Async & Sync) and RS422. Installed and configured routers, bridges, hubs, terminal servers, multiplexes and modems. Designed and configured routing protocols, OSPF, RIP, and designed Tag Switching networks. Used TCP/IP, IPX/SPX and AppleTalk. Used a number of troubleshooting tools from probes to serial communications analysers. Trained on protocols such as ATM and frame-relay.
GPRS
Designed IP networks for Nokia customers. Analysed the operator's current network infrastructure, operational profile and interpreted the operator’s GPRS business strategy and future forecasts. Based on this information, created a GAP analysis, defining the changes to their current IP infrastructure. Responded to RFI and RFQs dimensioning Nokia's GPRS equipment from the Gb interface including Inter-PLMN and Gi. Trained Nokia and customers on GPRS planning. Created virtual remote office workers for private networks using a mixture of GTP & GRE tunnelling.
TETRA
Helped develop Dolphin’s TETRA Packet Data infrastructure. Worked with Dolphin’s SwMI manufacturers to develop a Gn interface for standard connectivity to GGSN. Contributed to ETSI’s TETRA high-speed data WG4 on TETRA 2 following the EDGE standard.
UNIX & Linux
Experienced in UNIX and Linux, working on Sun, HP, NCR, Intel and Bull machines. Completed two major courses both three weeks duration, one in system administration and the other in shell programming. Set up various YP/NIS Servers, Clusters with Oracle DB, Portals, Domain Name Servers and websites.
